Ashley Mae Michaels (née DeCosta; born January 5, 1990) is a Canadian professional wrestler, best known for her time in Soul Wrestling Incorporated under the name Ashley Neon. She is a three-time SWI Women's Champion, with her third reign being the longest reign in the title's history as well as any SWI championship. Ashley is the only wrestler in SWI to have held a title for more than 300 days. She had previously competed under the name Ashley London.

Early life[]

Ashley was born in Calgary, Alberta in 1990. Her mother Laura raised her alone after her father walked out during Laura's pregnancy. When she was in her teens, Ashley attended various pro wrestling shows after attending with her friend, and decided to become a pro wrestler. She graduated from Jack James High School in 2008, the same year she made her debut on the indy circuit as Ashley London. Her gimmick was that of a British maid, complete with an exaggerated accent.

Ashley London (2009 - 2013)[]

Ashley was signed to Soul Wrestling Incorporated in November 2009, with the company wanting to kickstart a Women's division. She made her debut at Destiny Fulfilled, where she was on the winning side of Kelsey Phoenix's team. The following month, she entered a battle royal to crown the first SWI Women's Champion, but was eliminated by Justine Vaine. She competed in sporadic tag team matches since the battle royal, including teaming with Ken Williams in a loss to Jason Daniels and Samantha Nichols at Questions Unanswered. Ashley also teamed with Ten-Ka, the Jungle Queen to defeat Samantha and Serenity Ramirez at Unholy Confessions. During a bout with Samantha in May 2011, Ashley suffered a knee injury and was out for several months.

Ashley made her return on November 12, teaming with Samantha to defeat Justine Vaine and Raneesha Jackson. Ashley immediately attacked Samantha after the match and posed with the Women's title, turning heel. Ashley challenged for the Women's title at Broken Chains, but was defeated by Samantha. Ashley then challenged for the title again at Rise of the Forces, but was once again beaten by Samantha. She got some payback by teaming with Justine and Serenity to defeat Samantha, Kelsey, and Psychophelia at Questions Unanswered. Ashley was featured sporadically afterwards before taking a hiatus in February 2013 to reevaluate her life and career.

Ashley Neon and Women's Champion (2013 - 2016)[]

On September 14, Ashley made her return under the name of Neon, with the gimmick of a raver. She interrupted Gina Scott when she was delivering a promo, and attacked her along with Justine Vaine before being chased off by Kelsey Ayami. Neon then made her in-ring debut the following week, teaming with Justine and Lavanya to defeat Gina, Kelsey, and Sarah Bennett. Neon was involved in an elimination tag team match with almost the entire Women's division at Betrayal; she managed to eliminate Samantha before being eliminated by Kelsey. Neon then had a brief feud with Gina, with the two trading victories with each other before Gina defeated Neon in a #1 contender's match. Neon then challenged for the Women's title at Destiny Fulfilled, but was unsuccessful. On February 8, her name was tweaked to Ashley Neon. At Rise of the Forces, Ashley won the Women's title from Kayla Stevens in a triple threat match involving Justine. She defended the title against Kayla at Questions Unanswered and Gina at Renewal before dropping the title to Lisa Cross at Independence 9. Following an unsuccessful rematch under "High Frequency" rules at Versus the World, Ashley went on a small losing streak.

On September 6, she accompanied Justine Vaine to the ring for her match without any of her rave attire or mannerisms. The following week, she defeated Sarah Bennett under the name of "Just Ashley". She wore a traditional wrestling singlet and attire and entered to Justine's music while using a simple spinebuster as her finisher. Justine said that she wanted to turn Ashley into a winner again after being a "futureless rave junkie". Ashley went undefeated in singles and tag team competition until November 8, when she was pinned by Sarah in a tag team match following a distraction from Lisa. Justine then challenged Lisa for the Women's Championship at Broken Chains, while wishing to include Ashley into the match to watch her back. At the event, Justine had the match won after the Makeover, but Ashley turned on Justine and pinned her after the Bass Drop to win her second Women's Championship. She then shed her attire to reveal her old rave gear, returning to the Ashley Neon gimmick to a thunderous ovation. This turned her face for the first time since 2011.

On the following episode of Apocalypse, she explained that she had wanted to teach Justine a lesson on individuality and said that she dances to her own drum. Ashley defeated Lisa at Destiny Fulfilled to retain the Women's title, then made amends with her after the match. Ashley defended the title against Justine and Kasai on separate occasions, as well as in a battle royal, before eventually dropping the title to Kasai at Questions Unanswered. Ashley spent the rest of 2015 usually competing in tag team matches alongside Kayla. Ashley then teamed with Gina Scott and Kayla Stevens to defeat JLK at Challenging Adversity, with all three victors receiving a Women's title match at Rise of the Forces, which Kayla won.

Making history (2016 - 2017)[]

Ashley then won a #1 Contender's match at Renewal, defeating Gina Scott, Theresa McShane, and 1-L to win a Women's title match at Independence 11. Ashley then won the title in the first ever all women's main event in SWI history. She defended the title in a Falls Count Anywhere rematch against Kayla at Versus the World. Ashley defended the title inside the Harbor Cage with her fellow champions against The Drinkin Clan, scoring the last pinfall on Shorty Drinkin. Ashley then defended the title twice against 1-L, including a Steel Cage match at Kill or Be Killed. Ashley then befriended Tonya Montana, whom she teamed with to defeat JLK at Broken Chains, before defending the title against Tonya at Destiny Fulfilled. On April 15, she successfully defended her title against Kayla and three days later, she became the longest reigning champion of any title in SWI history. Days after that, she became the first wrestler to hold a title for 300 days.

Ashley finally lost the title to Lavanya in a Femme Fatale Battle Royal at Questions Unanswered, ending her reign at 308 days. She had started as the first entrant and made it to the final two before being eliminated. Ashley then challenged Lavanya for the title at Independence 12 in a losing effort. Ashley would become #1 contender to the title (now held by 1-L) alongside Justine Vaine and Lavanya on November 11. At Destiny Fulfilled, Justine would pin 1-L to win the Women's title after preventing Ashley from hitting the Bass Drop on 1-L. Despite this, Ashley was left alone in the ring to receive one final standing ovation.

Personal life[]

Ashley married Steven Michaels in December 2015. Their first child Jasmine Samantha Michaels was born on October 3, 2018.
