James Ian Roberts (born September 29, 1988 in Nanaimo, British Columbia) is a retired Canadian professional wrestler, best known for his time in Soul Wrestling Incorporated as JR Stone. JR is a three-time SWI World Tag Team Champion with Mikey Stone as The Stones; their second reign is the longest in the title's history at 238 days. JR soon found singles success in 2013, winning both the SWI World Championship and the SWI North American Championship, becoming the ninth Triple Crown champion. He was inducted into the SWI Hall of Fame in 2019.

Early life and career[]

Roberts was born to Kevin and Eileen Roberts. He has an older sister named Justine. Roberts began training to become a pro wrestler after graduating high school. He made his debut at the age of 18, competing on the Canadian west coast under his real name and wrestling a dark match for ECCW as Rob Storm.

The Stones (2010 - 2012)[]

Roberts was then signed to SWI after agents witnessed a match between him and Manic Mike, noting their chemistry. The two were paired as a heel tag team known as The Stones, being renamed JR and Mikey Stone and gaining Mary Jane as their manager. The team, using the gimmick of stoners, made their debut at Rise of the Forces, defeating Team England. The team would feud with Team England and Bad Attitude Inc. over the summer for the SWI World Tag Team Championship. At Destiny Fulfilled, The Stones won a #1 contender's tag team turmoil match to earn a future tag title match, which they lost against Worldwide Truth & Freedom at Beginning Anew. The Stones then defeated W.T.F. in a ladder match to capture the titles at Challenging Adversity. The Stones then defended the titles against W.T.F. on Apocalypse and Bad Attitude Inc. at Rise of the Forces before losing the titles to The Monstourage, turning face in the process.

On the July 9 episode of Apocalypse, JR defeated Mikey to gain entry into the Versus the World match at Disasterpiece, teasing dissension between the two. JR came up short in his bid to win the SWI World Championship, being the fourth man eliminated. On the following episode of Apocalypse, JR and Mikey made amends and continued their bid for the tag titles, defeating the Monstourage in a Texas deathmatch at Kill or Be Killed in the process. At Broken Chains, The Stones turned heel by attacking Bad Attitude Inc. and W.T.F. after losing a triple threat tag team match to them. At Destiny Fulfilled, The Stones and Mary Jane defeated Bad Attitude Inc. and Lisa Cross to win the Tag Team and Women's titles for the second time each. The Stones defended the titles over the next few months against teams like W.T.F., Bad Attitude Inc., Los Opuestos, and the Drinkin Boyz before losing them to The Brothers Grimm at Unholy Confessions. The Stones challenged for the titles at Betrayal and Destiny Fulfilled, but lost both matches.

Singles career, World Champion, and North American Champion (2013 - 2014)[]

At Beginning Anew, The Stones faced Bad Attitude Inc. in a match where the winners would get a tag team title match and the losers would disband. The Stones lost the match and Mikey attacked JR after. JR got his revenge by sneak attacking Mikey twice and costing him a chance at the SWI North American Championship. JR then faced Mikey in a ladder match at Rise of the Forces, winning a World title match in the process. JR then defeated Blackwolf at Questions Unanswered to win the SWI World Championship, his first singles title. JR defended the title the following month at Renewal against Blackwolf, Jeffy, and Mikey, pinning Mikey for the retain. JR then successfully defended the title against each member of Starrway Enterprises throughout June on Apocalypse after being issued the challenge by Carter Starr. JR lost the title to Carter at Independence, but was praised for his performance in the match by many of his colleagues and fans.

After unsuccessful title bids at Disasterpiece and Kill or Be Killed, JR rekindled his feud with Mikey when he cost him a match against Stan H. Johnston. JR then helped Bad Attitude Inc. against Mikey, leading to all three men facing Mikey for the SWI North American Championship at Destiny Fulfilled in a 30-Minute Ironman match. JR won the match with four points, winning the North American title and becoming the ninth Triple Crown champion. He then defended his title against Mikey at Beginning Anew, then teamed with Tannark Fisher and Team England to successfully defend their respective titles against Starrway Enterprises at Challenging Adversity. JR then lost the title to Daniel Ness after Mikey interfered and joined Starrway Enterprises. JR then faced Mikey in a Last Man Standing match at Independence 9, but was defeated by Mikey for the first time. JR returned the following month at Versus the World, attacking Mikey and Waylon Kenney and chasing them off. JR fought Waylon at Unholy Confessions for a right to a rematch with Mikey, but was unsuccessful.

After months of antagonizing Mikey, JR then appeared to change his mind when he saw that Starrway Enterprises was mistreating his brother. JR helped chase Starrway off at the end of Kill or Be Killed, and then again at Broken Chains. Mikey himself then challenged JR to a Steel Cage match for Destiny Fulfilled, wanting to give his brother the rematch he deserved. Mikey defeated JR at the event, but JR would help Mikey beat down Frankie and Ness after the match.

The Stones reunion and JR's retirement (2015 - 2016)[]

On January 3, The Stones reunited and helped members of the SWI roster beat down Starrway. The Stones then defeated Starrway at Beginning Anew, then again at Challenging Adversity in a Losing Team Disbands Ladder match. The Stones then defeated The Barricade at Renewal to win their third SWI World Tag Team Championship. They retained the titles against The Barricade on June 13, and then won a Tag Team Turmoil match at Independence 10. After defending the titles over the months against The Barricade, The Drinkin Bros., and Rock n' Roll Angels, The Stones lost the titles to The Risen at Kill or Be Killed. They failed to regain the titles at Destiny Fulfilled.

After witnessing Mikey win the SWI North American Championship, JR then took some time off to recover from a shoulder injury while also considering other career options. He returned at Rise of the Forces, saving Mikey from an attack by Trent Radical and Jeremy Besser. JR wrestled his last match at Questions Unanswered, losing to Radical in a match for the North American title. The Stones then beat down Radical and Jeremy before JR bid goodbye to the SWI fans. The Stones reunited for one final match at RewindMania, defeating The Ministry in the main event. JR was inducted into the SWI Hall of Fame in 2019.
