Kayla Anne Stevens (born February 23, 1991 in Red Deer, Alberta) is a Canadian professional wrestler, best known for her time in Soul Wrestling Incorporated. She is a record five-time SWI Women's Champion, and holds the record for most title reigns for any individual in SWI. Kayla also held the SWI Women's Tag Team Championship with Theresa McShane. She is also known for her appearances with Alpha Championship Wrestling.

Early life[]

Kayla was born to Steven (1949 - 1994) and Frances (1952 - 2009) in Red Deer, Alberta. Her older brother is Tyler, who is best known as Hitman of the Gods. She graduated from Winston Churchill High School in 2009, and attended the University of Lethbridge, where she graduated with her bachelor of nursing in 2013.

Alpha Championship Wrestling[]

Kayla was first mentioned by Hitman on the April 10, 2006 episode of Warfare, where it was revealed she was (kayfabe) kidnapped by Draco. Hitman defeated Draco in a Hitman's Rules match to win her back, and she briefly accompanied him before a knee injury sidelined Hitman. She made a few more appearances in September before disappearing. The Stevens siblings made an appearance at Goodbye Game, the final ACW event in 2011.

Soul Wrestling Incorporated[]

Debut and Women's Championship (2009 - 2011)[]

In the weeks leading up to Beginning Anew: The Rebirth, Kayla made an appearance, announcing her desire to become an SWI wrestler as a tribute to her brother (who was believed to be deceased). She was constantly mocked by the Australian Menace, leading to Soulmaster coming to defend her. Kayla defeated McLeach on the return episode of Apocalypse to gain a contract with the promotion. She later teamed with Soulmaster to defeat the Australian Menace at Challenging Adversity. Kayla suffered her first loss on the following episode of Apocalypse, when her and Soulmaster lost to the Calgary Cowboys; the two quietly separated after the show. In July, Kayla became the first woman to challenge for the SWI World Championship when she entered the Versus the World match at Disasterpiece; she was eliminated by Mr. Besser after the Besser Bender.

In December, SWI began piecing together a women's division. Kayla teamed with Kelsey Phoenix, Ashley London, and Lisa Cross to defeat Justine Vaine, Samantha Nichols, Kennedy Carson, and Simona Summers at Destiny Fulfilled. Kayla entered a battle royal to crown the first ever SWI Women's Champion at Beginning Anew, but was the second-last woman to be eliminated. In April, Kelsey turned on Kayla during a tag team match; this led to Kayla unsuccessfully challenging for the title at Questions Unanswered. The following month at Renewal, Kayla defeated Kelsey in a well-received Falls Count Anywhere match to win the title for the first time. Kayla lost the title to Justine at Unholy Confessions, then lost a rematch for the title at Betrayal. Kayla then spent the rest of 2010 and the early part of 2011 competing in tag team matches.

Monstourage, Women's Championship, and The First Diva of SWI (2011 - 2013)[]

On the May 14 Apocalypse, Kayla was confronted by Colossus Rhodes, who extended an invitation from Hitman to join the Monstourage. The following week, Kayla turned on Kelsey when she defended her, joining the Monstourage and turning heel for the first time in her career. After playing mind games with fellow Monstourage female Tonya Montana that led to her exit, Kayla defeated Tonya at Independence for her second Women's title, costing Tonya her job in the process. Kayla defended against Kennedy and Mary Jane at Disasterpiece. Kayla lost the title to Samantha at Unholy Confessions, then left the Monstourage when Hitman berated his stablemates for losing. Kayla then lost a rematch two weeks later on Apocalypse.

At Destiny Fulfilled, Kayla led her team (herself, Justine, Raneesha Jackson, and Serenity Ramirez) to a losing effort against Samantha's team (herself, Kelsey, Becky Cooper, and Psychophelia), being the last eliminated by Samantha. At Renewal, Kayla defeated Samantha for her record third SWI Women's Championship. At Independence, Kayla debuted a new ring attire when she defended the title against Kelsey. After the match, she adopted a delusional celebrity gimmick, proclaiming herself to be "The First Diva of SWI". Kayla lost the title to Psychophelia on August 18. Kayla lost a Street Fight at Destiny Fulfilled to Samantha.

Over the course of 2013, as Kayla was beginning to be featured less, various aspects of her gimmick were systematically stripped away from her. On the July 20 episode of Apocalypse, she appeared in her old attire, blaming the lack of star power being given to her as the reason for the end of her diva gimmick. She then teamed with Becky Cooper to defeat Psychophelia and Gina Scott at Disasterpiece and later helped Becky defeat Psychophelia for the Women's title.

Retribution and Women's Championship (2013 - 2016)[]

Following Becky's title defense and sneak attack against Psychophelia at Unholy Confessions, Kayla attacked Becky and allowed Psychophelia some time alone in the ring, signalling a face turn. Kayla completed her face turn on the following episode of Apocalypse by defeating Serena. Before the match, she explained how aligning herself with Becky made her realize all of the mistakes she made over the last two years and she wanted to make amends with everyone she had wronged. Kayla challenged for Becky for the Women's title at Betrayal, but won only by disqualification. On the following episode of Apocalypse, Kayla defeated Becky for her record-breaking fourth Women's title. She then defended against Becky at Kill or Be Killed, and against Gina and Justine at Broken Chains. Kayla then debuted a new submission finisher, the Lady Killer, in her successful title defense at Destiny Fulfilled. Kayla eventually lost the title to Ashley Neon at Rise of the Forces, ending her reign at 176 days.

Throughout September and October, Kayla was being stalked by a "secret admirer", leading her to losing some matches. On October 18, the admirer was revealed to be B. Randall Morrison, who would later kidnap Kayla at Kill or Be Killed. Kayla was then forced to accompany Morrison due to undisclosed reasons. At Broken Chains, Morrison proposed to Kayla, who instead fled from him. It was then revealed on the following episode of Apocalypse that Kayla was recently (kayfabe) evicted from her house and had been taken in by Morrison, who demanded that she manage him in return. After costing Morrison his match at Destiny Fulfilled, Kayla rejected his proposal on the following episode before being attacked by Jordan Newport. Morrison then kicked Kayla out of his house. Kayla was then saved by XS3 from another attack, and the two teamed up (with XS3 assuming his Exemplar identity) to defeat Morrison and Newport at Beginning Anew.

Kayla then spent most of 2015 teaming with Ashley, acting as veterans of the SWI women's division. Kayla and Ashley then began feuding with the newly formed JLK, a team comprised of Justine Vaine, Lavanya, and Kasai. Kayla and Ashley, along with Gina Scott, teamed up to defeat JLK in a highly acclaimed Falls Count Anywhere match at Challenging Adversity. All three women then became #1 contenders to Theresa McShane's SWI Women's Championship, and Kayla went on to defeat the three in a Fatal Four Way at Rise of the Forces to win her fifth Women's title, breaking her own record in the process. She defended the title against Karen von Black, 1-L at Questions Unanswered, and all three members of JLK at Renewal. Kayla then lost the title to Ashley at Independence 11 in the first ever all women main event. Kayla then lost a rematch a month later at Versus the World. On the following Apocalypse, Kayla appeared to announce her retirement, but was taken out by 1-L on the stage. Kayla faced 1-L at Unholy Confessions in a losing effort. Kayla later involved herself in a feud with the Drinkin Clan, aligning with The Risen, Samuel Sheppard, and XS3.

Black and Blonde (2017)[]

Kayla then formed a tag team with Theresa, dubbing themselves Black and Blonde. The two entered the SWI Women's Tag Team Championship Tournament in April, defeating Justine Vaine and Kasai in the first round and Maoli Koas in the quarterfinals before losing to eventual winners Positive Pessimism in the semifinals. The two chased the titles throughout 2017, feuding with Los Hermanas Martinez by coming up on the losing end every time the two teams faced. On December 16, Black and Blonde won the SWI Women's Tag Team titles from Los Hermanas Martinez, with the stipulation that they would be excluded from Destiny Fulfilled if they lost. The win made Kayla and Theresa the first two women to have held both the Women's and Women's Tag Team titles in SWI. They retained the titles one final time at Destiny Fulfilled in a Tag Team Turmoil match.

Personal life[]

On October 11, 2016, Kayla officially came out as gay in a post on her Facebook page, a move which was supported by her colleagues and friends. She is the second LGBTQ+ wrestler to come out while competing in SWI, following Manzer, who is bisexual. She began dating former Monstourage stablemate Tonya Montana in December 2016, with the couple announcing their engagement the following November. The two wed on July 21, 2018.
